It all began in the year 1919. The Burkhardt and Schmidt Company was founded and began the production of cotton sewing yarns. The technology for the processing of viscose for embroidery yarns, was developed by MADEIRA only in the 50s. The MADEIRA soon became one of the best known manufacturers of embroidery yarns for machines and effect yarns.

The current MADEIRA Group, which operates worldwide, remains a family business in the Black Forest, led by twins Michael and Ulrich Schmidt who represent the third generation.

The guidelines dating back to its foundation have proven themselves to this day: excellent product quality and satisfied customers. Quality assurance at the MADEIRA means constant control of the raw materials used, extensive laboratory tests before and after colouring, specific tests on the smoothness of our embroidery yarns, control of the guaranteed washing characteristics and individual additional tests relating to DIN and ISO standards.

The result of this tradition of quality for 85 years is an assortment of leading products spread worldwide, both for the big names in the fashion industry and for lovers of precious handwork.

In 1987, MADEIRA Garne GmbH was founded. Through sales to qualified wholesalers and retailers you address a demanding clientele. The new supply program with accessories for sale to shops, includes in addition to yarns for machine embroidery and sewing, also an assortment of yarns for hand work.

This new customer base has ensured MADEIRA continued success. The reason is not only to be found in the quality of our yarns, but also in the projects of a management that has remained young that motivates the company to always new ideas and maximum performance.

Partners and consumers therefore appreciate above all our creativity, as the MADEIRA revives a sector rich in tradition thanks to new packaging techniques and product evolution. Examples of this are the spiral packaging that protects the precious yarn from dirt and dust and our new products in the special area of effect yarns.
