Ribbon feet: Sewing instructions.

• When sewing, use a heat-transfer or tear-off stabilizer to make the fabric firmer. The amount of stabilizer needed varies according to the thickness of the fabric; Always test on a scrap of fabric of the same type you want to use.
• Thread the machine with a thread that matches the tape.
• Select a straight stitch (other stitches may damage the presser feet and/or break the needle).
• Choose ribbon foot 1, 2, or 3 according to the width of the ribbon. The results will be optimal if the tape fills the gap in the presser foot, but it will run smoothly. We suggest using strips of uniform thickness.
• Thread the tape from the front, through the slot in the presser foot. Pull about 2 cm of tape behind the presser foot.
• Fit the presser foot to the machine.
• When sewing, place the tape over the shoulder or to the right of the machine. It is very important that the tape moves easily while you sew.

Free-motion sewing with ribbons

To sew free-motion, the machine must be equipped with a special free-motion function. This feature is available for models in group 1&7.

• Prepare the machine as described on the left.
• Prepare the machine for free-motion sewing (see your user guide for instructions).
• When you start sewing, hold the end of the ribbon. Guide the fabric gently. Turn the fabric over to change sewing direction.

Tips:

• Use "flat" and light ribbons, such as organza (coarser ribbons may have difficulty sliding in the feet).
• To achieve different effects, you can create ribbons by cutting them, straight or bias tape, from a fabric.
• To make curls or spirals, sew from the inside out.
